Easter 2010

Easter 2010

This last weekend was very busy! We started our Easter festivities at my parents' home. Mom's family always had a tradition of having brunch for all of their friends, family, and neighbors when she was growing up. My mom wanted to carry this on with us. We went over there first thing on Saturday morning. We pretty much had and Easter egg hunt right away.
Nolan was excited to see bright shiny stuff laying on the ground, but I don't think he knew what it was. (We don't give him candy, etc. very often.) He did run to grab it, and he started a collection in his hands. I had to show him the purpose of the basket, and from there he got excited. He went around and found a few things, but got bored after a couple of minutes. We had to secure some play dough and bubbles for him. We also had to show him what they were before he got too excited about them.
After the hunt, we had the best brunch. Mom had the best ham and eggs and a super yummy fruit salad. Also, she had made some orange rolls ealier for my dad and brother, so we had no problems helping to polish them all off! Nolan was a good boy and ate almost everything. He wasn't too sure about the ham, but did do well on everything else.

I wish I had gotten better picture of Nolan with the other cousins. Koen and Brooklan were there for the hunt, and then little Rylee and Layla showed up later. Nolan always has such a good time while he's there with them.

Another fun thing we did while there was get our Christmas Present from Home Depot. We got a new bath room sink, faucet, and cabinet. We are super excited to put it in. It's embrassing to admit, but we have been washing our hands in the tub, or we use hand sanatizer and then wash our hands in the kitchen. Sad, but true. We finally turned the water off to the sink because it dripped like crazy. Can't wait to get it installed!

When we got back home in the early evening, Nolan went down for a nap, and Daddy went to REI. He came home with a child bike trailer. I have wanted on for such a long time, and since Nick got such a good discount, we couldn't pass it up. It was kinda a coincidence that we got it Easter weekend, but I decided we would leave it out on Easter morning to see how Nolan liked it.
Well, he liked it so much that we couldn't get him out. He knows what these are as we have been looking for quite a while. Everytime we would come across one, we would put Nolan in them, strap him in and try it out. He knows that this means he gets to go outside, and he loves it outside!

Immediately after breakfast, we went for a ride, and he loved it! Daddy took and picture with his phone to document the event.

Once I brought the camera out to get a picture, Nolan reached for it while still in his hat. He loves his hat too, by the way. He could wear it all day and be happy. I think it would also protect his head a lot when he drops to the ground in one of his temper tantrums!
Anyway, after Nolan's nap, we were ready to go to Meme and Papa's (Nick's grandparents). Literally as we were ready to walk out the door, I got called into work to do an abscess drain! Just my luck! So I sent Nolan and Nick on ahead of me, and I went into work to save lives! Here's a picuture Nick sent to me while I was at work. Nolan was sitting in a special kid seat patiently waiting for a treat or his meal. I'm not sure which since I wasn't there!
Nick was very good to try to get pictures during the Easter egg hunt outside. It seems like it would be quite a chore while trying to help Nolan at the same time, but not bad at all. Here Nolan is with some of his loot. He got a fun bouncy ball and a carrot shaped bat and ball. He loves to hit things (like Dad) with the bat!
Nolan also found a fun puzzle with farm animals and some sun glasses which he absolutley loves! I wear sunglasses often and Dad wears regular glasses, so he knows what they're for! Here's Nolan hanging out with his second cousin Kaden. Kaden is sharing his Nerf gun like the good kid that he is! He is so nice with Nolan. He is an only child, so sharing can be hard at times!

Lastly, here is Nolan with one pair of his cool sunglasses (he got green, yellow, and blue!). He really does love them. I took this picture the morning after. He was still excited for them! Not so interested in candy. I'm sure that will change some day, so I'm grateful for what I have now!
Hopefully next year Nolan will get the real reason for Easter. I will have to get him a fun book to illustrate the whole thing. Anyhow, I'm sure glad we got to spend lots of time with the family over the weekend. I think this is what it's all about!

March 2010

March 2010

It has been a good month. Nick found a job. We have the weekends together. We have started our garden inside. Nolan is talking more than ever and learning so fast. He's getting to be so much fun and so darn cute! I mean, look at him! He sure can be messy though. Here he is getting his very long hair all dirty! (I did cut his hair a few days after this. I love it long, but it does get messy.)I think it was hummus. He loves the stuff, but you can't turn your back on him for a second.
So, Nick and I want to do a garden again this summer. The only difference is we want to plant from seed when we can. So, we started a lot of fun things inside here. We just got the little green house kits from the store. They have these little pellets in each plant container, and once you water the pellets, they grow and loosen, and you have your dirt. It was so nice and easy. It was much easier than scooping soil into each separate little hole. Once you have your dirt, you get your seed, and follow the directions on the back of the packet of seeds. Super easy!

We started the first kit on Saturday the 13th (?), and by Wednesday the 17th, we saw our first little sprouts! The broccoli sprouts were the first ones up.This is what it looked like two days later on Friday.

And here another two days later on Sunday (a week and a day after we started them).

And now three weeks later! Some of the plant were big enough I had to put them in a little larger containers. (I guess it was really Nick who put them in larger containers.)

I was worried a bit about our sweet red peppers we planted. It took them almost three weeks before their little heads pooped up out of the dirt. I'm so glad! I love those yummy sweet peppers! The only thing that still has not come up is our Rosemary. I think it grows pretty fast though, so we can just do a direct plant outside here in a month or two.

So, some very cute things that Nolan has been doing lately. He loves to take his socks off and now will even take his pants and shirts off occasionally. He usually does this when he gets up in the morning or doesn't want to take a nap. Thank goodness for onesies or else I'm sure he'd find a way to take his diaper off too!

Nolan likes to do anything we do. If we read, he wants to read. If we get on the computer, hea wants on the computer. If I'm looking at adds from the newspaper, he wants to look at newspaper adds.He has also found the joys of a back pack recently. He will carry this thing all over the house. He is so excited to put it on, and he gets a bit upset if he can't put it on himself. He sure does make us smile alot. Also, just recently in the past couple of weeks, Nolan has been giving us lots of loving. He will come up to me and give me big hugs when he has missed me or is just tired. I love this. Usually he's just too busy to give us any love. I sure hope he keeps this up!
