Memorial Day Weekend

Boise Zoo and Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend was wonderful. We all had three days in a row off, and it was wonderful. It doesn't happen very often that we get that extra time off, so we always savor it when it comes. (I just have to stop and say right now how grateful I am that Nick was laid off. If he still worked at the same place, he would be working until 8pm every night, and we still wouldn't have weekends off together. He would rarely ever see Nolan and he would miss out on so much. We are truly blessed now with a job Nick loves and some good healthy habits have come from it. We are riding our bikes all the time now. Nick even rides to work. I wish I were as fortunate as he. I feel like we are spending more quality time as a family now, and I love it!)

Anyhow we spent Saturday doing yard work and planting more of our garden since so much died the weekend before. We went for bike rides, and that was when I decided to get Nolan's birthday present out early. He kept climbing on our bike pedals to sit on our bikes, and I could just see the whole thing crashing down on him. I decided to get his tricycle out and let him play with that. I know I should have made him wait, but it just seemed safer this way. I think he loves it though.
I think Sunday we just spent at home. (I can't remember since it has been a couple of months now!)

On Memorial day, we went to the Zoo. Nolan loved it. We were even one of the first 50 people there, so we got to feed the giraffes! It was pretty cute to watch Nolan do this. He was a little hesitant a first. I had to show him how to do it. It was cute to watch the look on his face. He squirmed a lot when the giraffes licked his fingers, and he loved petting them. Overall, it was a good experience. After that, we just kinda wondered around. We had lots of fun on all the little play animals.
Nolan thought it was just so perfect to sit on the ledge of the windows of the komoto dragon.
He liked the big statue of the komoto dragon just outside the display...
He loved feeding the goats and lambs their food. Again, it was so funny to watch him pull his little fingers back so they didn't get wet, etc. He was so excited to just be there and pet them. This is such a good area for the kiddies!
Nolan saw the boat, so we took a little boat ride from one side of the pond to the other. It was a highlight of the day! He is so into anything that moves (cars, trains, boats, airplanes, helicopters, motorcycles). Nolan and Daddy got to walk around with the wallabees! They were so cute! I think they look a lot like kangaroos. Last but not least we visited the penguins, and that was a lot of fun to watch.
Even with all the rain, we really enjoyed our time at the zoo. We will definitely do it again.
